Standing Committees

The church carries its administrative services under four standing committees. The responsibilities and initiatives of these committees are described below:

The Executive Committee:

The Executive Committee consists of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, the Secretary, the Treasurer and the Asst. Treasurer of the Board.  This Committee is the core administrative, financial and managerial body of the Church.

Facilities and General Services Committee

Responsible for the physical wellbeing of Church Property and Facilities including maintenance of the building and grounds. The Committee is the Custodian of Church Properties and its inventories. Coordinates and supervises the activities of Ushers, Custodians In cooperation with other relevant committees, advises the board on procurement, lease, purchase and sale of building and properties. 

Membership and Social Services Committee

Membership and Social Services Committee functions are: To create and foster an atmosphere that would generate sense of unity and friendship among members and the Community. Organize and arrange Sunday and Holiday catering. Work out a schedule for Sunday breakfast. Arrange and organize ways to help and visit the elderly, the sick and needy members and parishioners. Carry out membership drive; Assist in collecting  dues and pledges;  Assist in campaigns and fund raising events in cooperation with the Finance Committee. Organize events and fairs to raise funds. Raise the visibility of the Church by means of newsletter, public relations and any other means with the objective of attracting more members.  Serve as a liaison with other sister Ethiopian Churches and other Christian denominations and related Organizations. Organize cultural and social events to bring together members and foster friendship. Organize disaster relief when needed both in the U.S. as well as in Ethiopia. Establish Charity and volunteer work that would reach out to the needy. Update membership list and provide to the Chief Priest for purposes of spiritual visitations. Advice the Priest, the Board and the membership about special needs of members.
 

Finance Committee


The Committee oversees the management of the finance, budget, investment and cash reserve of the Church; Initiates and runs fund raising campaigns, solicits and collects donations, gifts and other sources.  Advices investment options.  Works with the Board, other Committees on funding, expenses and any other issues related to income and expenses.

Education and Youth Services Committee

This committee has two subcommittees:

Education subcommittee: Main aim is to teach Ethiopian culture, Amharic language, Amharic Alphabets reading and writing and Bible Study to kids of various ages. Students are placed in one of the four classes given every year; they are allocated based on age and language skill level.
Few years back a group of parents got together to create a program that is targeted to the children of the Medhaniealem congregation. The goal of the program is to teach the children the Amharic language, Amharic Alphabets reading and writing as well as Ethiopian culture. As a result the parents recruited teachers from amongst the parents who are willing to spend a couple of hours every Sunday to teach the children. Consequently three classes were created which is named Green, Yellow and Red. The committee members, who are primarily Parents, meet on the last Sunday of each month to discuss any issues pertaining to the children
.

Youth Subcommittee: Consists of young adults who work together to help the church and bring about change to their communities.  Initiate youth participation in religious affairs and membership of young Ethiopians and other interested youth in the community.
